Read our Founder's Story

My name is Prema Winn and I am the director of the Family Executive Center. I first came on board as a consultant of the Maritime Odyssey Preschool and quickly took the initiative and innovation to create a center for parents to grow as professionals while their children are in school. I started the program as part of the Maritime Odyssey Preschool and one year later, I was able to make us an independent non-profit organization and hire 2 AmeriCorps VISTA members to join our team.

I created the Center to give the South Norwalk community the opportunity to grow by offering something new. Although there are many organizations that offer Family Resource Centers, we’re called the “The Family Executive Center” because we are truly here to economically advance parents and allow them opportunities and the education to do that so that they can become the best leaders that they can be in a way that they seem fit for their own families.

Because of the Center, we were able to provide tablets, hotspot devices, books, and professional development opportunities for South Norwalk families.

“We have close relationships with the preschool staff. That provides the families that we serve with security because they’re able to drop off their child in the morning and then come to the Center to print off a resume, participate in a workshop, potentially spend their day here taking advantage of resources and at the day, they pick up their child in the building and go home.”

Giving Tuesday is going to be an opportunity for you to help us become more visible in the community. We invite you to make your contribution to the Center in any way you can. Please refer to the graphic below to learn about ways to get involved. Your contribution will help us to provide even more resources and opportunities for families to thrive.
